Annapurna Circuit with Tilicho Lake
Beginning at a low elevation and climbing up to a higher elevation, you trek through terraced fields, Tibetan plateau-like landscapes and subtropical flora.
When Manang valley is reached, you notice a dramatic change in the environment. This valley lies in the rain shadow as the Annapurna ranges lie to the south- Annapurna II (7,937m) and III (7,555m), Gangapurna (7,454m) and Glacier Dome (7,193m). To the north, on the Tibetan border are the peaks of Pisang(6091 m) and Chulu (6583m).
A most rewarding side trip to Tilicho Lake starts from Manang. The historic village of Khangsar is about 4 km and can be reached within an hour. Visit Tare Gompa and continue on through steep grassy slopes to Tilicho Base Camp, which is the only possible overnight stop if you are not camping at the lakeside. Watch out for hundreds of Blue sheep grazing along the slopes. A rewarding trek on the next day takes you to the beautiful Tilicho Lake at 5,200m where you explore for a couple of hours before returning to the Base Camp and on to Leddar to continue the trail over the Thorung La pass (5,400m). Walk on to the pilgrimage site of Muktinath and continue to Jomsom from where we catch a fight back to Pokhara.
